History
The SHAPE International School (SIS) was founded in 1967 and
provides education for approximately 2600 children of Supreme Headquarters
Allied Powers (SHAPE) and other NATO personnel serving in adjacent areas.
The founding nations of SIS were: Canada, the United Kingdom,
the United States of America and the Federal Republic of Germany. The SHAPE
International School is build on a mosaic model where each national section has
its own Principal, Prefect or Head Teacher who is responsible for his/her
section regarding administration, national curriculum and discipline.
The SHAPE International School has a
General Director and a Deputy-Director who oversee the good administration,
care, and financing of the whole school campus in conjunction with the various
National Representatives. Principals meet on a monthly basis with SIS
Administrators to discuss and deal with issues common to all sections.
The SHAPE International School regroups
11 Sections who offer a full curriculum, including one large Kindergarten
Section, seven Elementary Schools (American, Belgian, Canadian, German,
Italian, Norwegian and U.K. ), and three High Schools (American, Belgian,
German). Furthermore, 3 additional Sections, Greek, Polish and Turkish, offer a
partial national course of study to their students during or after school
hours.
SHAPE
International School was founded in 1967 and provides education for
approximately 75 children of Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE)
and other NATO personnel serving adjacent areas. SHAPE Canadian School boasts many distinctive educational programs such as French Language
Instruction beginning in the Elementary School.
In 1967, the Canadian Section
consisted of a primary school Grade 1-6 and secondary school 7-10 with a student
population of 138. Today, our school offers Grade 1-8 and follows the Ontario
curriculum with a much smaller student population. The Canadian section is a
very valued and much appreciated on the SHAPE International Campus for the
quality of the bilingual education delivered to our students and for our
contribution to the International community.
The spirit of internationalism and cooperation amongst NATO partners is well
represented in each SIS Section where NATO children study and learn together.
SIS also fosters this same spirit in inviting teachers of all Sections to meet,
establish contact and plan integrated activities/field trips/excursions during
SIS Professional days to benefit all their students.
